Biography

Sarah Frances Richardson was born ca July 27, 1834 in Maine. She was the daughter of Jacob Richardson and Judith Knight. At the age of 16, she was in her parent's home in Mount Desert Rock/Tremont, Hancock, Maine, where her father was a Light House Keeper.[1]

She married Cushing Dyer (1826-1890) on December 22, 1852 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine.[2] The couple had 5 children,

  1. Harriet Frances Dyer (1854-)
  2. Martha Adelaide Dyer (1856-1913)
  3. Lucy Nellie Ellen Dyer (1858-)
  4. Herman James Dyer (1860-)
  5. Alice Edith Dyer (1867-1940)[3]

Sarah (age 26) and Cushing (age 32) lived in Portland, Cumberland, Maine in 1860, where Cushing ran an Eating Saloon, and she took care of the home and children, Harriet-6, Martha-4, and Lucy-2.[4]

In 1870, Cushing was a Painter in Portland, and by then they had all the children in the home.[5]

They moved to Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts by 1880 where they lived on Elm Street. Cushing was a Painter, Sarah was taking care of the home and family, Addie was a Taileress, Herman-19 was a painter too, Alice-13, was attending School, and their married daughter Lucy Folsom, Husband Henry (a Fresco Painter) and baby Harold were in the home.[6]

Her husband Cushing passed away in December 1890 in Everett, Massachusetts, at the age of 64. They had been married 38 years.

After her husband's death she went to live with her daugher Lucy Nellie and family in 1900,[7]1910.[8]

At age 86, she was living with her widowed Daughter Alice, E Morris who had a Rooming house in Manhattan, New York.[9]

She died some time after 1920.
