CITY POLICE COURT. Messrs. Dwyer (P.M.) Webb, Somerville and R. H. S. Abbott presided yesterday. Albert Ricketts, an old man, was before the court on Friday and Saturday last for drunkeness, was fined 10s, or three days imprisonment for a similar offence committed on Wednesday. He was further charged with the theft of a swag containing a shirt, blanket, and a razor valued at 30s, the property of James Ramsay. Prosecutor and prisoner are two swagmen who chanced on one another, and as Ramsay was the only one who possessed a swag they agreed to doss together in the show grounds. Ramsay went down the street at night to get beer, leaving Ricketts in charge, and on returning found the latter had disappeared with the swag. Prisoner stated that he waited for Ramsay to return with the beer, and on his not appearing after a long delay, he went in search of him. Got drunk subsequently, and was found in this state by Constable Sheahan carrying the swag minus various articles. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.
