Catherine's maiden name was Rister, vice Rieter. She was the daughter of Christian Rister.
In his Lexington County will of 3 April 1856, Adam mentions his wife Catherine and children Elizabeth, Mary Margaret, George A., Joseph, Samuel and Frederick.
Catherine is listed in the 1850 and 1860 census records for Lexington County, SC. Since she does not appear in the 1870 census, then it is to be assumed she died between 1860 and 1870.
Catherine's grave is now under the waters of Lake Murray. There is a monument at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery, Dreher Island Road, Chapin, SC, which has a list of names whose graves are covered by Lake Murray. It reads "THIS MEMORIAL ERECTED TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE WHOSE NAMES ARE INSCRIBED HERE-ON AND WHOSE BODIES NOW REST BENEATH THE WATERS OF LAKE MURRAY."
