Biography

Francis was born on 7 March 1761 at Macon, Warren County, North Carolina.2 He was the son of Francis B Riggan Sr and Mary Pegram.

Francis Riggan is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A096602.

Francis served in the military on 10 February 1781 at Warren County, North Carolina, in the militia (drafted).A Private under Capt. Jordan Harris and Col.James Read ,in the newly created Light Horse Regiment. Sick during the battle at Guilford Court house,guarded the baggage wagons. And was made a Corporal.[1] Francis served in the military on 1 July 1781 at Warren County, North Carolina, in the militia (enlisted).A Private under Capt.Nathan Turner and LT. Col. William Brickell( Franklin Regiment).Source states he was born 3/7/1764 Bute,North Carolina.(Which became Warren, North Carolina.)[2]

His wife made a claim for pension. In the source is a hand written letter that states Francis's birthday enlistment date and death date. And that Littleton F. Riggan(his son) was the executor of the solders estate.[3]

Francis B Riggan Jr and John Riggan appeared on the census of 1800 at Warren County, North Carolina.4 Francis registered to pay taxes in 1814 at Snow District, Warren County, North Carolina.

In Francis B Riggan Sr's will, Francis was named by Francis to handle his estate on 14 May 1816 at Warren County, North Carolina.

He made a will on 25 October 1839 at Warren County, North Carolina. Recorded in Book 39 Page 238, proved Nov, 1846.

Son Robert Riggan - 30 acres of land on the east end of my land adj. Clarisa Pegram, to include the place where she now lives. Daughter Lucretia Harris - that part of my land on at the southwest corner of my lands adj. my Spring Branch, including the place where she now lives. Son Little F. Riggan - the remaining part of my land, with the express understanding that my son Little Daniel Riggan be supported by my son Little F Riggan during his lifetime. Remaining property to besold and proceeds divided among all my children John Riggan, Robert Riggan, Joseph H Riggan, Lucretia Harris, Little F. Riggan, and Little Daniel Riggan, but the share of my son Little Daniel Riggan is to be under the control of my son Little F Riggan, and this share shall revert to him at the death of the said little Daniel Riggan.   3. LUCRECIA RIGGAN was born in 1795 in Warren County, NC. She died in Aug 1865. She married Henry N. Harris on 14 Dec 1819.
  4. JOSEPH H. RIGGAN was born in Jul 1798 in Warren County, NC. He died on 11 Dec 1873 in Warren County, NC. He married (1) POLLY DAVIS HARRIS, daughter of Henry N Harris and Nancy Davis Nicholson on 01 Jan 1821 in Warren County, NC. She was born about 1800 in Warren County, North Carolina, USA. She died before 1834 in Warren County, North Carolina, USA. He married (2) ELIZABETH S. MARSHAL on 28 Feb 1834 in Warren County, NC. She was born in 1810. She died on 28 May 1899 in ROCKY MOUNT, NC.
  5. LITTLETON F. RIGGAN was born on 29 Jan 1804 in Warren County, NC. He died on 23 Apr 1882 in Warren County, NC. He married Sarah Rebecca Shearin, daughter of John Peebles Shearin and Lucretia Rives Or Rivers on 19 Dec 1825. She was born in 1795 in Warren, North Carolina, United States. She died in 1822.
  6. LITTLETON DANIEL RIGGAN was born on 29 Jan 1804 in Warrenton County, NC.[5]
