Private Greenberry Riggs served with Upper Battalion, Montgomery County Militia, Maryland Militia during the American Revolution.

Greenberry Riggs is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A096628.

During the Revolution Greenberry served in the Third Company, Upper Battalion of the Montgomery County Militia, After the war he lived in Frederick County, VA, Later he moved to KY, where he settled in Montgomery County. His will dated July 3, 1844 was proved in the same year and mentions his wife Ann and his ten children. (Liber E.Folio 90, Montgomery Co.KY Wills, Mt. Sterling) His name is most interesting, there must be some relationships between the Howard family of the Riggs Family of Maryland as Edmund, his father, referred to Greenberry Howard as a kinsman.[1]

— In the original will (September 1841), all property, both real and personal, was left to his wife, Ann, to be divided equally among his children after her death. Ann passed away before the codicil was written (July 1844), thus the change in heirs to the children.

NOTE: Although the 1840 Census indicated that Greenberry owned 2 females slaves, no slaves were mentioned in either his will or in the appraisal of his estate.[3]
