Biography

Mary Ritter was born on 14 Apr 1846 in Pennsylvania, United States. She was the daughter of Jacob Ritter (1811-unknown) and Margaret (Whisler) Ritter (1807-1880).

In the 1850 census Mary (age 4) was in the home of her parents, Jacob & Margaret, in Manor Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.^[1]

In the 1860 census Mary (age 14) was in her parents home in Manor Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.^[2]

Mary married John Rhoads (1839-1866) about 1860. Details of their marriage are unknown. They had a daughter together: Rebecca (Rhoads) Lindemuth (1861-unknown). It is likely that Mary married Levi B Neff after John's death in 1866.

In the 1870 census Mary (age 24) was the wife of Levi Neff in Manor Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.^[3]

Levi and Mary had four known daughters together:

1. Angeline (Neff) Seitz (1867-1958)
2. Miranda (Neff) Seeman (1868-1928)
3. Josephine (Neff) Souders (1871-1926)
4. Elizabeth R (Neff) Bendler (1871-1962)

Note that Elizabeth's marriage record confirms her parents and mother's maiden name.

Mary died on 5 May 1873 in Manor Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania per her FamilySearch profile; however, sources confirming her death have not been located. A Mary Neff with unknown birth date who died on 27 Jul 1872 is buried at Point Cemetery, Central Manor, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This may be the Mary Neff of this profile.^[4]
