Mr L. Roach; Loy Yang, who is leaving with his family for the Maryborough dis trict, in Queensland, was given a send off at Traralgon on Monday and Loy Yang on Tuesday. Mr Roach was re ferred to as a good farmer and a good sportsman. He is well knbwn through. out Gippsland as a racehorse owner, and, it will be remembered, won the Rosedale Hardiran with Glenemmie.

After a lot of battling Mr. Henry Roach - once of Timmering - is again an alderman of the Gayndah own Council. He was returned a few weeks ago by 16 of a majority a by-election, So now we may expect some lively times in the council again. Mr Larry Roach, his brother, a man of rather fine physique, is still with us. He does not take a great part in public matters, and tells me "He would sooner go about buying cattle," and, he might have added, selling them too, at a good profit. He tells me he passed through Rochester in 1876 with his teams going by road from Ballarat to Shepparton. Both Henry and Larry are of the very best.

REVISITING TRARALGON.

We were surprised when Mr. L. Roach. formerly a well known farmer residing at Loy Yang. walked into the "Journal" office on Monday afternoon. He was looking fresh land well, and assured us that he was 16 lbs. heavier than when he left Traralgon for .Queensland about five years ago. Mr. Roach sold out at Loy Yang as stated, and bought land near Gayndah, (Q) He likes the locality, and thinks he has hit upon one of the best parts of Queensland, where the rainfall is over 30 inches in the year. He remarked, in passing, that it is rather warm for about six imonths in the year, but (smilingly) the heat had not dried him up yet. He has 2000 acres of land, and is engaged in dairying graziing and cropping. He is only a few miles from a butter factory, and close to the railway line, with frontage to Reeds' Creek. For several seasons he has grown a fine sample of wheat, and a good crop. He had a good crop of chaff, and just before leaving for the south put the price up to £7 a ton. He had just sold as fine a crop of potatoes as could be grown in Gippsland for £8 per ton, "and," with a twinkle in his eye, he added, "we can grow two crops a year." He added that the price of cattle had doubled during the past four years, and the enor mous demand for the meat works would ensure big prices in future. The man with a little capital, he said, would get a very good return. It is rather singular that in the same district, within a radius of 40 or 50 miles, there are several people from Gippsland.
