John Roberts was born in Cornwall, England.

John Roberts was baptised on 22 December 1808 in Wendron, Cornwall. He was the son of Grace and John Roberts.^[1]

The 1851 census lists John Roberts (42) as a Tin miner living in Wendron, Cornwall with his wife Eleanor (48) and children John Roberts (15), Eleanor Roberts (14), Elizabeth Roberts (12), Jane Roberts (10), Josiah Roberts (8). All members of the family were born in Wendron.^[2]

He was noted as deceased on his son’s marriage certificate in 1867.
