Biography

Lydia was born in Redcar, Yorkshire in 1868, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Stephenson) Robinson.^{[1] [2]}

In 1871 and 1881, she was living with her parents and siblings in, Redcar. ^{[3] [4]}

Eight years later she married Henry Morris Lawrence in Redcar and they moved to Middlesbrough.^[5] Ten years later Lydia and Henry were living in Middlesbrough where Henry was a grocer's assistant.. Lydia was at home caring for their first child, Mabel, whilst working a dressmaker to supplement their income.^[6]

In the 1901 census, Lydia and Henry, a grocer and provision merchant, were living in Low East Street, Middlesbrough with their 6 children.^[7]

By the time of the 1911 census, Henry and Lydia had moved to 182 Borough Road, still in Middlesbrough. Henry's trade was now a barman, with Lydia continuing her work as a dressmaker. Five of their children were still living at home. The census also reports the number of children born in a marriage and Henry and Lydia had had 9 in total but only seven were living at the time of the census. Two sons, Arthur and Benjamin had died in infancy in 1907 and 1908 respectively.^[8][9]

Lydia died on 9th March 1948 at 35 Willow Street, Middlesbrough leaving Henry widowed.^[10][11]
