Biography

Thomas was a Friend (Quaker)

Thomas Robinson was born into a Quaker family in Dublin, Ireland in 1714. He emigrated to Philadelphia in 1738. His removal certificate from the Dublin meeting records that:

he had been observed deficient at times in bearing the cross in deportment and single language according to our Principle, but having been tenderly admonished we hope he will be more circumspect in those respects for the future.

In his biographical profile of Judge Richard Peters, who married Col. Thomas Robinson's daughter, Sarah Robinson, John Jordan gives a brief sketch of the Robinson family:

Judge Peters married Sarah Robinson, daughter of Thomas Robinson, a wealthy shipping merchant of Colonial Philadelphia and one of the [signers of the] non-importation resolution of October 25, 1765. Mr. Robinson was the owner of large estates lying just over the Delaware State line, and his home (still standing and occupied) was at Naaman's Creek (Claymont) Delaware. . . .
Mrs. [Sarah Robinson] Peters was one of the celebrated beauties of her day, and her sister, Mary Robinson, married General Anthony Wayne."

Thomas Robinson passed away in 1766.
