John was married to Florence Annie Coleman and was a miner. They married in 1900 in New Zealand.
He passed away in 1914 as a result of the terrific explosion in Ralph's mine. He died aged 37.
He was buried at Kimihia Cemetery (commonly known as Huntly Cemetery).
John and Florence's daughter, Florence Eleanor Robinson (who died in 1969) is also remembered on his memorial. A plaque in her memory was added to the memorial by her sons (John Robinson's grandsons), Leo and Maurice Power. John's wife Florence remarried in 1916 to Thomas William Morton and moved away to live in the Wellington region, where she died in 1944.
