Biography

Mary Roades, daughter of Charles Rodes/Rhodes was baptized on February 7th, 1702 in St. Peter's Parish of New Kent County, Virginia. ^[1] The death date posted here is {uncited}.

Research Notes

• A common, unfounded claim confuses her with Mary Rodes Smith, and further claims that she married William Slatton.^[2].

• The records say that Charles Rodes married in New Kent County, Virginia in 1695, he had a daughter Mary baptized in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County in 1703. A John Rodes was born in New Kent County in 1697, and the assumption is that he is son of Charles Rodes. The given name of Clifton frequently appeared in both the English family to which Charles Rodes belonged and in the Virginia family descended from John. Possibly another son of Charles Rodes was Clifton Rhodes whose Will was proved in York County, Virginia in 1745, naming son Francis and mentioning children of his brother John Rhodes of Hanover County.^[3]
