Biography

Abigail Rogers was born at Ipswich, Massachusetts on July 5,1681 [1], the daughter of Samuel Rogers Esq., town clerk of Ipswich, and wife Sarah Wade. She married first on April 18, 1699, [2] Richard King, son of Ralph and Elizabeth (Walker) King, who was born at Lynn, Massachusetts on May 3, 1677 [3] and who died at Boston in 1702, at the early age of 25. [4]

After the death of Richard King at Ipswich, widow Abigail, took her infant son Richard to her mother's home at Concord, Massachusetts where on November 1, 1704, [5] she married Lieut. Samuel Dudley, and in 1714/5, they were among the first settlers of the new town, Littleton, Mass. (p. 126) [4]

*** Accusation of Witchcraft ***

The Witch Tree in Littleton marks the location ofthe Samuel Dudley house. In 1720, the three daughters of Joseph Blanchard accused Dudley's wife, Abigail, of being a witch. Even when Abigail Dudley died during the investigation the Blanchard daughters continued to exhibit their afflictions. Some eight years later, Elizabeth Blanchard, then of Medford, confessed to Rev. Ebenezer Turell, that this had been a fabrication. [6] [7] [8] [9]

Abigail died at Littleon, Massachusetts on August 9, 1720. [4] [10]
