Colonel William H. Rogers of Lyons, died yesterday morning aged 63 years. Deceased was the eldest son of the late James Rogers and was a brother of Edward P. Rogers who died ten days ago.
Colonel Rogers was born in Lyons and had lived there continuously, bearing the time spent in the army during the Civil War. He enlisted in October 1861 and went out as quartermaster-sergeant with the Ninety-eight New York Volunteer Infantry under President Lincoln's call for 300,000 three-year men. He was promoted to second lieutenant on April 30, 1862; first lieutenant colonel, on April 3, 1865. the regiment was mustered out on August 31, 1865. Colonel Rogers bore conspicuous parts in the battles of Seven Pines, White Oak Swamp, Drury's Bluff, Gaines' Mills, Petersburg, Cold Harbor, Chapin's Farm and Fort Darling. He participated in all the hardships and dangers of the siege of Yorktown and was a member of Foster's expedition to North Carolina in 1862. At Fort Harrison the command of the regiment fell upon Colonel Rogers, then major, the young officer acquitting himself admirably by carrying the day.
