Biography

On November 1 1983, Miss Grace Potter Romcke of Charlottetown celebrated her 100th birthday. Miss Romcke is the daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Ellis) Romcke. At the age of 16 she moved from Summerside to Charlottetown where she began her working career in the office of Nelson Rattenbury & Co, a wholesale grocery firm. After several years wh moved to Winnipeg where she was a bookkeeper with the Grain exchange. Following the first World War, she set out for Australia; however, her mother persuaded her not to cross the Pacific. She then moved to New York City where she lived in downtown Manhattan for 49 years. She was employed at the head office of J P Stevens, a leading textile company.

After her retirement, she travelled extensively. She returned to Summerside in 1968, and lived there until August 1982 when she moved to the Sunset Lodge in Charlottetown.

Miss Romcke enjoys excellent health, is completely in touch with all current events and is in regular communciation with her many friends. ^{[1] [2]}
