Edward was born in 1880 in Philadelphia. His parents were Robert Rommel and Celia Foley. Edward Rommel served in the Spanish American War as a member of the 2nd Oregon Volunteer Infantry, Co. A. [1]

He married Laura Courtney in 1903 in Portland, Oregon.[2] Laura passed away in about 1907. Edward later married Juanita Ford. Together Edward and Juanita had four children, including:
