Biography

John Orde Romney was the son of Rev. John & Eliza Jane Romney. He was born in 1851 in Thwaite, Cumberland.^[1][2][3]

He was christened on 13th March 1851 in Cumberland.^[2]

He was educated at Clifton College^[4]

In 1871, aged 20, he is a "pupil" in the house of Samuel George Rees, who is the Rector of Wasing, Berkshire.^[5]

Lodging with Rev. Rees seems to have been a "crammer" to get him into Cambridge University because he matriculated at St John's College in 1872.^[4]

In 1881, the census finds him lodging in the house of George Kerton, in London (It's a hotel).^[6]

In 1901, he is in Clevedon St Andrew, Somerset, again lodging. ^[7]

He married Anne Gertrude Kaye on 20 Jun 1882 in St Olave's church, York.^[8][1]

For the 1911 census, he was visiting Edward Atkinson, a farmer, in Colton, Lancashire.^[9]

He died in the first quarter of 1924 in Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire.^[10]

He is buried in the Municipal cemetery, Great Malvern.^[11]
