SIMEON ROOT, son of William Root and Hannah Pinnock; born 13 January 1733/4, Hebron, Tolland County, Connecticut;[1] died 24 December 1772, Piermont, New Hampshire, by the caving in of a well.[2] He married LYDIA BIRGE.[3] Lydia married (2) Jonathan Wood, between 28 January 1778 and 7 May 1781.[4] She lived with her son Daniel after her second husband’s death, dying in Strafford, Vermont.[5]
Four of Simeon and Lydia’s sons—Simeon, Solomon, William, and Jonathan—were listed on “Capt. John Algers pay Role to such soldiers in his Company as assisted the people of Strafford on their Retreat, also the service of horses employed in sd service,” dated 14 August 1777 at Thetford, Vermont. Jonathan Wood, Lydia’s second husband, also listed.[6]

↑Root Genealogical Records has her name wrong, calling her “Eliz.” Birge. A misreading of “Eliz.” for “Lydia” seems possible in the 19th century, when handwritten letters would have been the usual mode of communication between a family historian and his informants.
