James was born before 1838 in Randolph County, Arkansas. He was the son of George Roswell and Nancy Luttrell. His death date and place are unknown; it is unknown if he married.
James was named in the will of his grandfather James H Luttrell which was dated 30 October 1838 and proved in 1844 in Current River Township, Randolph County, Arkansas.[1]
I have not found any sources online for James Roswell, under that spelling or variants. The only definite information found was a secondary source stating James was named in the will of his maternal grandfather. Have been unable to find that will in any online sources. Since James' mother was born about 1810 and married George Roswell about 1826, James could have been born anytime between about 1827-1831. He should have been found somewhere on the 1850 census, but I have been unsuccessful in finding any reference to him. It is possible he died after 1838, when his grandfather wrote his will.
