Biography

Martha (Rott) Acuff, 87, passed away on July 10, 2008, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Idaho.

Martha was born on November 15, 1920, to John and Magdalena (Schrenk) Rott on a farm near Lind, Washington. At the age of 6 she moved with her family in to the town of Lind. She attended Lind schools, and graduated with the Class of 1939. Martha worked for the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company for eight years and for 10 years at the Lind branch of Seattle First National Bank. During this time, she was also treasurer of the town of Lind. She married Jack Acuff on October 4, 1957, and moved to Pullman, Washington. In Pullman, from 1957 to 1960, Martha worked for the Agricultural Extension Service at Washington State University.

After her children were born, Martha was a full time stay at home mom. She took an active part in her children’s activities, such as PTA, home room mom at school, Cub Scout den mother, Camp Fire Girls leader and a “taxi service” to the various activities her children were involved in.

At age 13, Martha became a Christian and a member of the Lind Baptist Church. As she grew older, she was very active in church work, serving as church treasurer, teaching Sunday school classes and working with youth groups. In Pullman, Martha was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She loved to sing and play the guitar. Her hobbies were needlework, crafts, and spending time with her family at the lake. Martha loved to cook and the cookie jar was never empty.

Martha is survived by son, Rick and his wife Abbie of Lewiston, Idaho, daughter, Jackie and her husband Mark Hinrichs of Portland, Oregon, granddaughter, Amanda and grandson, Andrew both of Lewiston, Idaho. She is also survived by one sister, Frieda Rott of Seattle, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 1988; her parents, two brothers Henry Rott and Albert Rott and four sisters, Lydia Sauer, Emma Jarbeaux, Eva Frieske and Bertha Schrader.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and had many friends.

Viewing will be Tuesday & Wednesday from 9AM to 5 PM at the funeral home. The funeral service will be at 1 PM on Thursday, July 17th at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1300 SE Sunnymead in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is caring for the family.
