Nicholas Rowe was the firstborn son of Nicholas Rowe of Muswell Hill and his wife Elizabeth Rivers. He was born in 1603, being age 13 in the year of his father's death in 1616. [1] [2] [3] The two generations of Nicholas Rowe must be distinguished; the father was not knighted, the son was. [4]
Nicholas Rowe was admitted to Emanuel College Cambridge on 18 June 1618. [5] He was specially admitted (probably at the behest of his father) at the Inner Temple on 13 October 1621. [6] There is no record of his receiving a degree or being called to the bar.
Sir Nicholas Rowe was knighted 16 Jul 1625 at Windsor, one of those knights made at the coronation of King Charles I. [7]
Sir Nicholas Rowe (Roe) of Highgate, Middlesex, married his first wife, Mary Hayward, when he was 19 years old.[2]
The marriage had one child, Mary Rowe. She died in 1634 and was buried at St James Clerkenwell on 24 April. [8]
