Biography

Sarah Rowley was born in Elstree, Hertfordshire in 1854, the daughter of James Rowley and Eliza, and baptised there on 23 April 1854 ^[1]

By 1861, Sarah's father had died, and she was living with her mother Eliza and 5 older brothers in Elstree, Hertfordshire ^[2]

Sarah married Mark Clifford, on 25 December 1878 at Holy Trinity, Haverstock Hill, Camden. Mark was shown as a 21 year old mason, his father William Clifford was also a mason. Sarah was age 24, her father was James Rowley, a labourer. Witnesses to the marriage were William Rowley and Louisa Rowley. ^[3]

In 1891 the family were living in Rufford Street, Islington. Mark was 33 years old and a general labourer, Sarah his wife was 37, and shown as born Elstree, Hertfordshire. By then they had 4 sons living with them, William age 7, Edward age 5, Andrew age 3 and Austin age 1, all were born in Islington. ^[4]

Sarah died in Islington in 1919, age 65 ^[5]
