Biography

Leo Ruel was born in 1897 in Somersworth, New Hampshire, ninth child of Louis Ruel and Virginie Marcoux.[1] The name on his birth record is Joseph Felix, but on the 1900 census his parents gave his name as Leo.[2] He later gave his name as Leo Felix or Leo F.

In 1918, Leo enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve.[3] In October of that year, he was in Gulfport, Mississippi, having been admitted to the naval hospital for bronchial pneumonia. His treatment lasted a month.[4] He served until his discharge in 1921.

In 1925 in Rochester, New Hampshire, Leo married Edna Beaudoin, daughter of Aurele Beaudoin and Delia Sylvain.[5] They settled in Somersworth, where they brought up their three children.

In 1930, Leo was working for his father at the coal and wood business.[6] By 1940, after the death of both his parents, he co-owned and co-managed the business with his sister Leona.[7] By 1950, the business he managed had become a coal and fuel oil delivery business.[8]

Leo died in 1953 in Somersworth, only 53 years old.[3]
