Louis Ruel (Riel, Ruais, Ruest) was born about 1741 in Canada, Nouvelle-France. He was the son of Antoine Ruest and and Marie Madeleine Desrosiers.
At about age 29 Louis married Marie Agnes Hudon dite Beaulieu on 30 Jul 1770 in Notre-Dame-de-Liesse parish in Rivière-Ouelle, Province de Québec. There were eight known children born into this marriage.
Louis Ruais died at age 78 on 1 Jan 1826 in Rivière-Ouelle, Kamouraska, Bas-Canada; he was buried the next day on 2 Jan in Notre-Dame-de-Liesse parish cemetery in Rivière-Ouelle.
