Research Notes

  • Marriage to Elizabeth Brandenburg is shown on the ancestry.com profile listed below. I have reason to doubt this since John A. Rush (1808-1899) is shown as the child of both Nancy Wilhoit and Elizabeth Brandenburg. It should also be noted that the child of Elizabeth was born while Nancy was still having children. No other record has been found authenticating the marriage to Elizabeth Brandenburg.

Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
John Rush was a Virginia colonist.

When John Rush was born in 1755 in Virginia, his father, Crawford John Rush, was 35 and his mother, Mary (Broyles) Rush, was 21.

He married Nancy Welhoit in Shelby County, Kentucky, in about 1798.[1] He moved to Kentucky in about 1810.[2] They relocated to Meade County, Kentucky, (probably to Buck Grove) before 1801, and they had seven children, all born in Meade County.[3][4][5] It is believed that he was a soldier in the War of 1812.[6] He died in 1838 in Meade County, Kentucky, having lived a long life of 83 years.

John was born in 1784. He passed away in 1839.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
