Sophia was born in about 1820 in Brunswick County, North Carolina, USA. She was the daughter of John Russ and Rachal (Hill) Russ.

In 1860 Sophia (age about 44) was living in Wolf Pitt, Richmond, North Carolina, USA.[2]
In 1870 Sophia (age about 54) was living in Wolf Pit, Richmond, North Carolina, USA.[3]
In 1880 Sophia (age about 64) was living in Wolf Pit, Richmond, North Carolina, USA. Marital Status: Married; Relation to Head of House: Wife.[4]
Sophia died at the age of about 72 on 22 May 1892 in Hamlet, Richmond, North Carolina, USA.[5]
Sophia was buried after 22 May 1892 in Milliken Cemetery near Hamlet, North Carolina, USA.[6]
