Robert was born in 1868. He was the son of William Russell and Susan Willis.^[1] He was an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation,^[2] his father being white and his mother part Cherokee making him 15/16 Cherokee.^[3]

He married Maud M. Beavers about 1881.^[4] Maud died in 1917.^[5]

In 1930, Robert is living with two of his daughters, Vera and Thelma, and his mother-in-law, Sarah M. Beavers.^[6]

Robert passed away in 1948.^[7]
