Elizabeth E. Russell was born approximately in 1839, in Alabama, and lived into her eighties. She married three times, had a variety of stepchildren, and according to her own account in the 1910 Census, had six children of her own within her lifetime.
Elizabeth E. Russell is found in the 1850 Arkansas United States Census, in her stepfather James Smith's household with her mother Sariah Lacky and what are likely her older step siblings, her full brother and her younger half siblings.
Elizabeth E. has a step sister Elizabeth Smith born approximately in 1839 in Tennessee, there has been some confusion as to which Elizabeth is the correct Elizabeth for her attributed descendants. Based on names, sources and Elizabeth's consistent use as Alabama as her place of birth, Elizabeth E. Russell is the correct name and ancestor for her attached descendants.
By 1860 Texas United States Census, Elizabeth E. is found with her first husband William D. Barnett and their first child Lockey Arminda Barnett. William D. Barnett served in the Confederate, Sixteenth Cavalry (Fitzhugh's Regiment; Third Regiment, Johnson's Brigade), and it is not clear if he was killed in the Civil War, or if they chose to part ways, however, by 1870 she is found back in Arkansas with her second husband J. A. Duncan
The 1870 Arkansas Census shows Elizabeth and J. A. Duncan residing in Vine Prairie Township in the county of Crawford, Arkansas with a real estate value of $1000 and personal property estimated at $200. This is likely a second marriage for both Elizabeth and her new husband, with Laura M. Duncan being J. A. Duncan's daughter from his first marriage based on the dates of birth and Lockey Arminda Barnett being Elizabeth's first daughter and accounted for as a Barnett in the 1860 census, although attributed to Duncan in the 1870 census. (Franklin is suspect as a stepchild to Elizabeth and William S. is likely a Barnett, 1910 census)
The majority of Elizabeth's children and stepchildren are listed as being born in Texas, at some point the Duncan's moved from Texas to Arkansas and then returned to Texas. The 1880 Texas United States Census shows Elizabeth E. Duncan in Comanche Co., and as widowed living next door to her daughter Lockey Arminda who is listed under the name Adline and married to Charles Horn Watson. Also living nearby is Richard Green York who would become her third husband when he became a widower. It is unclear what transpired with Richard York, while there is a marriage Certificate attributed to the union between Elizabeth and Richard G. York, she later continued to use the Duncan surname and claim herself as a widow.
The 1910 Texas United States Census shows Elizabeth E. Duncan living with her son William S. Barnett in Amarillo, Texas and again next door to her daughter Lockey Arminda (Barnett) Watson Sublett. By 1920 Elizabeth E. has once again relocated and is found in the Clovis, New Mexico United States Census with a Samuel B. Duncan, which is listed as her son. It is unclear exactly who this Samuel B. Duncan is but there is no record of him and he does not fit in the (6) children scenario Elizabeth E. cites in the 1910 census.
Elizabeth E. (Russell) Barnett Duncan York led a long an likely storied life. Living through the Civil War, traveling between Arkansas, Texas and New Mexico, and successfully raising (6) children to adulthood during what must have been very difficult times. No further information has yet been discovered after the 1920 Texas, United States Census.

Notes
W. S. V. Duncan is likely William S. Barnett, and very possibly William Samuel Barnett AKA Samuel B. Duncan, although the birth day is wildly off. Additionally, the 1910 census has a grand daughter Annie Duncan (DOB 1901) living with Elizabeth E. Duncan and William S. Barnett. Elizabeth E. Duncan has a son named Alvin who is listed as widowed in the 1900 census with a (1) month old daughter named Annie. The grand daughter Annie is likely Alvin's daughter from the 1900 census. - Additionally, there is no record discovered as of yet of Elizabeth E.'s youngest daughter Nannie Lavina York prior to 1930. Based on DOB, marriage certificate and DOB of first child, Nannie can not possibly be Annie.
