A. Cowan Sallee Obituary:
"Mr. A. Cowan Sallee, 82 years old, formerly of Pulaski County, died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Allyn Sheldon, and Mr. Sheldon in Salt Lake City, Utah. He had been in declining health for several months. Mr. Sallee was the son of Joel W. and Cynthia Perkins Sallee and was born in the Oak Hill neighborhood. He was educated in the county schools and when a young man went to Topeka, Kansas, and spent several years with his uncle, Mr. Will Sallee.
Returning to Somerset, he entered the general merchandise business with Bee Grinstead. He married Miss Mettie Calvert of Rising Sun, Ind. Mr. Sallee sold his interest in the merchandise store and bought the interest of Will Perkins in the hardware store of Perkins and George Sallee, which was located on South Main Street. Later he disposed of his interest in the business and with Mr. W. A. Moore and Mr. Sam Boone went to Idaho. There he bought a sheep ranch near Pocatello, Idaho, and until a few months ago made his home there. When he became ill he went to Salt Lake City to be with his daughter.
Mr. Sallee was a member of the Baptist Church and was a deacon in the First Baptist Church here. He taught the Men's Bible Class in the Pocatello Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Sallee passed away before he left Somerset, about 35 years ago.
Funeral services were held in Salt Lake City Monday and the remains are being brought here. A short service will be held at the grave in the family lot of the CIty Cemetery Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Surviving are four daughters, two sons and one sister, Mrs. Annie Meader of San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Sallee was a spendid citizen and for a number of years was actively identified with the commercial and religious life of the city. He leaves many relatives and friends here who regret to hear of his passing. Mr. Sallee was always kind and considerate of others, led a Christian life and counted his friends by his acquaintances."[3]

Indiv Note
Note: Agnes Sallee wrote the following biography of her father:
"Our father, Arthur Cowan Sallee, was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, about four miles out of Somerset on December 15, 1856. He was next to youngest of a large family — the parents of whom were Joel and Cynthia Perkins Sallee. He spent the first eighteen years of his life in that area but by the time he was eighteen Papa was getting restless and anxious to get away from the farm and see a bit of the outside world. His oldest brother "Jareth" had gone to California during the gold rush and had not returned to Kentucky so his parents were anxious that Papa not follow in his footsteps. However they finally agreed that he should go if he promised to return in two years. This he did.
Papa first went to the home of an uncle in Kansas and spent several months there, helping with the chores and the stock about the farm.
We do not know about when he left Kansas or what experiences he had going farther west but do know he was driving a stage coach — which of course meant freight, passengers, baggage — and often money. This was out of Helena, Montana.
I do not think the rough life in those surroundings was discouraging to him in any way, because, even though he returned home as he had promised, he always yearned to go back to the life of a frontiersman.
Later — We do not know just when — Papa had a store in the southern part of Somerset with a partner by the name of Grinstead. It was during that time that Miss Metella Calvert went to Somerset to visit her brother and family. The two young people met and became interested in each other — and were married at her home in Rising Sun, Indiana in 1885.
There came a tragedy a few years later when the store was destroyed by fire.
Then, Papa and an older brother, George P. Sallee opened a hardware store in the larger part of Somerset and were in business there for many years.
Meanwhile, things went along as they usually do — with children — a pretty red brick home — but Papa still yearned for the West frontier.
Our mother became ill with a wasting desease and passed away on Nov. 22, 1904, which of course made a drastic change in the lives of our family and we were a sad group trying to straighten out our way of life.
Papa's health began to fail and his doctor told him to get out of the store — and Uncle George was beginning to become interested in other lines of trade — the two brothers sold their store and Papa brought his family to American Falls in July of 1909.
He took a piece of land about four miles out of town — and I am sure — had his fill of the Wild West by the time he got it cleared and irrigated and a crop in. There he lived until he had to sell the place and retire.
Papa was never married again.
Our father was a devout Christian in the Southern Baptist tradition and a student of the bible. He taught a senior Bible Class in Sunday School as well as a bible study group that met three or four times a month. He also was a deacon in the Baptist Church and had much to say as to the course of affairs there, This was, of course, in Somerset — and he sadly missed that association later as there was no Baptist church in American Falls for several years.
When Papa sold his farm he invested in some rental real estate in Pocatello and was very active in the church in that city until he passed away in June of 1938. He is buried beside our mother in Somerset, Ky."[5]
