Biography

Juana was born about 1596 to Pedro Sanchez de Monroy and an unnamed mother.^[1] The 1598 Expedition records only mention that Pedro was married but not if he was bringing his wife or any children to New Mexico.^[2] He may have brought them later when conditions improved.

Juana was married to Juan Alonso de Mondragón^[1] and they had three known children: Juana, Melchora de los Reyes, and Sebastiana.
