The photo of the tombstone for William Sanford shows it to be a broken mess, with a small plaque on one side having the dates 1774 and 1839 and ?....? Funeral Home below. Whether those dates were on the original or not they would seem to be valid with a Funeral Home providing the information[1]. His death location in Westminster is assumed to be the same as that of his burial that was in Cross Roads Baptist Cemetery #2 New location, at Westminster, Oconee County, South Carolina, USA. The only child listed on this record is a Thomas Sanford (1798-1870), born about 15 years before daughter Zillah.
However, William Sanford's Will of 9 August 1838, when he was established in the Pickens District of South Carolina leaves all his lands situated on Ramses Creek and District to his son Barwick I Sandford[2] [his 3rd child], and his heirs. His chattels and the remaining part of his estate were to be divided equally between John Dickson and Robert Dickson, the latter being Zillah's husband Robert. William's signature was witnessed on 27 September 1838, and probate granted on 18 October 1839 (see ref.2). John Dickson had married William's first daughter Zelphia Sanford (1807-1880) and 2nd child[3]. Zillah was his 4th child.
