Biography

Lionel Pelham Sapsford was born on 21st February 1913 at Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He was the older son of Clinton Sapsford and Lillian Clark. [1]

He studied for and became a medical doctor.

Lionel Sapsford is a Military Veteran.
Served in the Second Australian Imperial Force 1940-1945
Australian Army Medical Corps
On 1st April 1940, Lionel was commissioned in the Second Australian Imperial Force (AIF) for service overseas during the Second World War. He was a doctor (Captain) in The Australian Army Medical Corps. [2]
Roll of Honor
Lionel Sapsford was a prisoner of war during the Second World War.

He became a Prisoner-of-War (POW). Upon repatriation to Australia after Japan's surrender, Lionel was discharged from the AIF on 11th August 1945.

Lionel passed away, aged 93 years, on 1st August 2006 at Brisbane and is buried in the Brisbane General Cemetery, Toowong.
