Joseph Henry Saunders was likely born in Harbour Island, Bahamas about 1830-1835.

He married Mary Ann Roberts, daughter of Benjamin and Mary Roberts, about 1860 in the Bahamas. The couple had children Mary Ellen, Julia Lorenzo, Albert, William Henry, Alfred Howell, and Louisa Agnes Saunders.

Joseph H Saunders was an executor of his father-in-law's will that was filed in 1882. This will mentioned Benjamin Robert's children and grandchildren: " .. and the remaining fourth part shall be divided equally .. among my grandchildren Joseph Henry Saunders, Mary Ellen Saunders, Julia Lorenza Saunders, Louisa Agnes Saunders, Albert Saunders, William Henry Saunders, Alfred Howell Saunders, Florence Zenobia Roberts, Charles Benjamin Roberts, and James Roberts .."

Joseph Saunders died New Year's Day 1910 (1 January 1910) at Harbour Island, Bahamas, at about 80 years of age.
