Melvin was born in 1921. He was the son of George Schlink and Rosa Roth. He passed away in 1995.

Melvin J. "M.J." Schlink, 74, Springfield, MO., died at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 1995, in his home. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, he was a chemical engineer with AMOCO Oil Company. He attended St. Joseph College, Renssealaer, IN., and the University of Illinois at Champaign, IL. He was active in Junior Achievement in Peoria,IL., and in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as a Scout Master of Troop #210 at Immaculate Conception Church. He also received the Order of Merit Award from the Boy Scouts. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #698. He was preceded in death by three brothers. He is survived by his wife Frances, of the home; four sons and their wives, Rodger Allen and Carla, Ashland, MO., David Lee and Nancy, Springfield, MO., Gerald Thomas and Debbie, Lamar, MO. and Joseph Matthew and Rene, Ballwin, MO.; a brother, Eugene Thomas Schlink; a sister Leona Dehority, both of Peoria, IL.; and eight grand-children. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 9, 1995, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father David Coon celebrant under direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with Bob and Don Lohmeyer. Burial will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today in the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hospice of Southwest Missouri, or Make Today Count, Mid-America Cancer Center, Saint John's Regional Health Center.
