Deloris Schumacher Smolnisky 1924 - 2016

Deloris Schumacher Smolnisky, 92, of Eugene, Oregon, died Friday, December 23, 2016 at Sacred Heart Hospital at RiverBend in Springfield. She was born September 12, 1924 in Eureka, South Dakota, to Ludwig and Eva Schumacher. She married John Smolnisky, March 31, 1946 and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Bruce (Shelley) Smolnisky of Eugene; and her daughter, Mary Ellen (Lynn) Woods of Tempe, Arizona. She also leaves her two beloved granddaughters, Amanda Croteau and Leah Woods.

After high school, Deloris attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. Deloris was a long-time resident of Eugene where she lived since leaving South Dakota in 1955. She retired from the Eugene School District where she was the head cook at Roosevelt Junior High School.

Her most joyous times were when her family was together. She enjoyed cooking especially baking and was an avid Seattle Mariners fan. After retiring, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society and Hospice. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church.

There will be a private memorial service. Deloris will be interred at Central Lutheran Church.
