Angelica or Engelica Schuyler's death at the tender age of 14 was recorded in "The Weekly Messenger," Boston Friday, January 15, 1813.
Entitled Melancholy
"On Saturday last a son of Col Peter Schuyler of Watervliet, was skating on the river and unfortunately broke through the ice. His sister Miss Angelica Schuyler seeing the danger her brother was in, unmindful of every consideration but urged by the natural impulse of fraternal affection rushed to the fatal spot to assist him but became herself the victim of her tender affection for a beloved brother--She was drowned in attempting to save her brother, who was himsef rescued from a watery grave by the assistance of some other person who alas came too late to save the amiable and affectionate Angelica whose lifeless corpse was taken out of the water." --Note--here i would have added the adjective- BRAVE
Angelica's headstone reads "In memory of Engelica Schuyler Daughter of Peter S and Catharine Schuyler; who departed this life, 26th December 1812 Aged 14 Years 2 months and 26 Days- -From adverse blasts, and low'ring storms, Her favour'd soul he bore; And with your bright angelic form, she lives to die no more." This inscription can be found at Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, Albany County, New York Inscription source: NYGB VOL 5 PG 60 but can also be found at the FindAGrave memorial.
This Angelica-Schuyler -daughter of Peter and Catharine --was only 14 when she bravely attempted to rescue her brother and drowned. She was not married. She has been mistaken at times for her cousin Angelica Schuyler Lansing who was the daughter of Peter Schuyler's brother Philip S Schuyler and Rachel Vandenbergh. As this site was attached to Peter Schuyler with the correct birth date, as well as after searching on Wikitree for a Philip S Schuyler born August 21 1763 to no avail; it seemed easier to detach Stephen Lansing as a husband here and reattach him to Angelica the cousin later.
