Biography

Thomas Henry SCOTT, "Old Tom," was the eldest child of Hope Brigdon SCOTT & Mary Ann GRINER. Thomas Henry was almost 10 years old when his father enlisted for the Southern Cause; he was not yet twelve when his father died in Confederate service. Old Tom was the husband, first of Louisa A. BEARD, and then of Sarah Elizabeth JEFFERS.

Old Tom and Louisa A. BEARD were the parents of ten children, born 1872-1890: • William Capers SCOTT, • Jesse Nathaniel SCOTT (buried in Tattnall County), • Hope Brannen SCOTT (buried in Tattnall County) • Benjamin Franklin SCOTT, • Winfield SCOTT, • Charles Paulhill (Polhill) SCOTT (buried in Tattnall County), • Causey Overstreet SCOTT • Mary Ann SCOTT USHER, • Jennie SCOTT BAZEMORE, and • Madie Louise SCOTT BOYKIN.

By Sarah Elizabeth JEFFERS, Old Tom was the father of five more children, born 1892-1904: • Minnie Ada SCOTT WILLIAMS, • Eva Mae SCOTT KEMP (buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Chatham County), • Sidney Grady SCOTT, • Infant Girl SCOTT (born 24 Sep 1902), and • Perlie Estill SCOTT (buried at Hillcrest Abbey, Chatham County).
