obituary from a Burt County, NE newspaper:

Mrs. E.W. Martin Passes Away

Malinda Jane Scott was born in Hendricks County, Indiana on April 30, 1843 and died in Lyons, Nebraska October 4, 1926 at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 4 days. She spent her entire girlhood and young womanhood in Indiana.

In the year 1865 she was married to Ervin W. Martin in Hendricks County and there were six children born to them; one of these died in infancy. The others are James William Martin of Lyons; Charles Thomas Martin of Draper, South Dakota; Mrs. Effie Russell of Tekamah, Nebraska; Henry Allen Martin of Rapid City, South Dakota; Harry A. Martin of Lyons. Besides these she leaves three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Nannie McReynolds of Montclair, Indiana; Mrs. Mattie Pace of North Salem, Indiana; Mrs. Mollie Moore of Maplewood, Indiana; John W. Scott of Lyons, Nebraska. Also nine grandchildren and ten great-grand children.

Since her husband's death six years ago the 14th of this month, she has made her home with her children.

Shortly after coming to Nebraska in 1890 she united with the Presbyterian church at Silver Creek, this county, and some years ago she transferred her membership to the local Presbyterian church of which she was a member at the time of her death.

Mrs. Martin has been failing because of age for some time but it was not until a month ago that she became critical. An hour before the end she sat with her family listening to the radio and then quietly slipped away without apparent suffering. And so there comes to her,

Light after darkness, gain after loss; Strength after weakness, crown after cross; Sweet after bitter, song after sigh; Home after wandering, praise after cry.

The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon and burial was made in the local cemetery by the side of her husband.
