Biography

Ann (Scriven) Elias was born in Herefordshire, England.

On 18 July 1719, Ann Scriven was baptised in Much Marcle, Herefordshire, to parents George and Margaret Scriven (née Jones).^[1]

She married John Elias on 12 November 1743 in Much Marcle,^[2] and welcomed a son named John several years later, who was baptised 8 November 1747 also in Much Marcle.^[3] John's birth was followed by five further children: Ann,^[4] Alice,^[5] John,^[6] Martha,^[7] and Margaret.^[8]

Less than a decade later, Ann was widowed by the death of her husband John, who was buried in Much Marcle on 9 December 1769.^[9] Ann didn't remarry, and was buried as Ann Elias on 25 July 1970.^[10]

Research Notes

Despite the fact that there doesn't appear in the Much Marcle parish registers to be another John and Ann Elias couple, there are two separate baptisms for sons named John - one in 1747, and one in 1757. However, there does not appear to be a burial record for the elder of the two Johns.
