Biography
John was born in 1851. He was the son of Andrew Jackson Seay and Mary Ann Wood.[1] He married Virginia Robert Coley, daughter of Winston and Malinda Coley, in 1873.[2] After Virginia died, he married Mary Frances O'Brien (nee Kelly) in 1898.[3]
In 1880, John was working as a shoemaker.[4] John became a police officer in the city of Lynchburg, prior to this photo of 1886. By the 1900 Census, he had attained the rank of Police Sergeant.[5] Sometime prior to 1908, John became the Chief of Police of the City of Lynchburg, Virginia.[6] He remained Chief of Police until at least January of 1920.[7]
