Biography

After Sophronia's husband "Kit" Barnes died, she sold her property and moved to Mendota, Missouri in 1884. She went through Mendota during a Fourth of July celebration. Made carpets out of rags from tying, dyeing, and weaving. She had to take over responsibilities of a man as a widow--wrestled hogs, made lard in large vats, etc.

Sophronia died while visiting her daughter Virginia.

Resided at Bevier, MO.
