Biography
Madison (Shapard) Webb is a part of US Black heritage.
Madison was born about 1833.
Madison was enslaved by Thomas Shapard. At some point between 1830 and 1840, Thomas and his wife Frances (Bailey) Shapard moved from Person County, North Carolina, to Haywood County, Tennessee, where they established a large plantation south of the Hatchie River near what is now the town of Stanton.
At some point before 1840, Madison was transferred to Thomas's son-in-law James Lewis Webb who also lived in Haywood County, Tennessee, at that time.[1] When Thomas died in late 1840, Madison was listed on his estate inventory as a 7 year old boy in the possession of James Lewis Webb.[2]
Around 1845, James Lewis Webb relocated to Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee.[3]
