Biography

Margaret Ellen Sharples was born on 23 Jun 1888 in the village of Low Prudhoe close to Prudhoe Castle in the County of Northumberland. On 9th August 1888 her mother 'Elizabella Sharples' registered the birth in the sub-district of Bywell in the Registration District of Hexham. Margaret Ellen's father was Thomas Sharples a coal miner. Margaret was baptised in the local church of St Mary Magdalene Church at Prudhoe village on 22 July 1888. N.B. Her surname has been wrongly transcribed as 'Sharpleys' on the baptismal transcription obtained from the FamilySearch website
