If a descendant takes responsibility for this profile here's information about his father Alfred Sharpless who was apparently familiar enough with the topic of Railroads that he wrote the following which was reprinted in several journals. Note that there's a faded sketch of Alfred, Sharples, (Sr.) accompanying the article.
