Ellis Shearer, son of Silvester and Mary (Abrams) Shearer, was born in Kentucky on June 19, 1907. The 1910 US Census shows him at age 2 living with his parents and two sisters, Lena and Lydia, in Scaffold Cane, Rockcastle County, Kentucky. In 1920, the family was living in Jackson County, and two more children had been added to the family, Willia and Sadie. Ellis's father was a farmer, and Ellis followed in his footsteps. By 1940, Ellis was married to Sarah and farming in Clover Bottom, Jackson County, Kentucky. He had two children, Eva and Ray. A third child, Clyde Ellis, died in infancy. Ellis died in 1979 and was buried in the Lunsford Cemetery in Morrill, Jackson County, Kentucky.
