Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Edmund Shepard is a part of US Black heritage.

Edmund was born about 1835. Shepard is being used as his last name at birth until his actual surname is determined.

Edmund was enslaved by John Swann Shepard (abt.1796-1853). In 1856, John Shepard's estate was divided. Some of the enslaved came from Shepards Place Plantation, Leon County, Florida and some came from New Hope Plantation, Leon County, Florida. The paperwork did not state which plantation each came from. However, Edmund appears to be from Shepard's Place, and was in Lot No. 2 who went to Robert Shepard. He was in a family group:[1]

Lot No. 2 to Robert Shepard
