James is NOT the son of Samuel Sheppard and Mary Kavanaugh, that is a lie introduced by a widely distributed document alleged to be written by Samuel Sheppard Jr the brother of James Sheppard. That document has not been proven to be true and is unsupported by any other verifiable documentation. My family does not connect to the Robert Sheppard who arrived in America on the Ship George in the early 1600s and is listed in the Census of Jamestown taken after the Indian Massacre of 1622.

Samuel Sheppard, son of Robert Sheppard Jessica (Hubbard) Sheppard, was born about 1695 in Virginia.^[1]

He married Mary Kavanagh, daughter of MIchael Kavanagh and Bertha (Dumas) Kavanagh.^[1]

He married Mildred Crockford, daughter of John Crockford.^[1]

Samuel died on 9 Nov. 1751 at Gloucester, Colony of Virginia.^[1]
