Biography

According to the Inquisition Post Mortem for his father, Hugh was 30 years and upwards (which may be equivalent to "in his thirties") at the time of his father's death in 1513. He founded a chantry at Mitton, now in Lancashire but at the time in Yorkshire. He made considerable additions to the Sherburne family home at Stonyhurst, including adding a minstrels' gallery in 1523 with an inscription which includes "Hugo Sherburn me fecit A. Dni. MCCCCCXXIII" (Hugh Sherburne had me constructed AD 1523). In 1521 he donated 20 shillings to Whalley Abbey, Lancashire.

Hugh's oldest son Richard was born 1491, according to A History of the Family of Sherborne, Charles Davies Sherborne, pub. Mitchell and Hughes 1901, pp.71, 78. He must have married about 1490 rather than 1510. Also, you show a daughter (Grace Sherburne Bradley) born 1490. So a 1510 marriage is a little late :)
