Lydia Sherman was born in 1736.

III. ‘’’Capt. SAMUEL SHERMAN’’’,⁴ b. Feb. 1, 1704, d. Oct. 28, 1769, Y.C. 1726. He studied divinity and was twice called to settle at Branford, Ct, but declined. He settled as a civilian in his native town, West Haven. In May, 1741, was appointed Captain in a Militia Regiment. He served as deputy from New Haven at sixteen sessions of the General Assembly; m. Apr. 4, 1728, MARTHA GOLD, dau. of Hon. and Lieut. Gov. Gold, of Fairfield, Ct. She d. Jan. 18, 1770, in her 63d year, less than three months after her husband.

(e) Lydia Sherman,⁵ b. June 9, 1736, m. Samuel Candee, and had a daughter Harriet Candee⁶ who m. old Squire Painter and had four children, Alexis Painter,⁷ Y. C, 1815, d. 1867, Sydney,⁷ Samuel,⁷ and a dau. who went as a missionary to France.
