His will is dated 24 October 1778 and proved on 14 March 1780 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.[2] His inventory was taken on 20 February 1779 and recorded on 14 March 1780.[2]The reason for this is because "On Sunday ye 8th Day of December AD 1776, about eight thousand of British Troops landed and took posession of the island and remained on until Monday, the 25th day of October AD 1779 for which time the inhabitance was grately opressed".[3] Therefore there is a break in recording from November of 1776 to February 1779.
